3 Tips for choosing the right house plan

There are many factors to be taken into consideration when Choosing the Right House Plan. Knowing what to look for ahead of time can save you time, money and frustration. For most families, going over home style options and taking everyone’s needs into consideration is beneficial when beginning the search process.

Here are a few more tips to get you started...

Questions to Ask: Choosing the Right House Plan

1. For most people, the most important factor is cost. How much home can you afford? Setting a budget can help you to stay within realistic boundaries. Builders charge per square foot, so meeting with a contractor is the best way to get a ballpark estimate. Remember, it’s important to understand exactly what you’re getting for that price.

Starting small? A lovely and functional starter home plan in the Sater Design Collection is the “Cassidy”. The open floor plan and high ceilings make the living space feel larger than its 1487 square feet.

2. Consider the land or lot on which you’d like to build. Is it sloped or flat? Does it have a view? Choosing a plan that fits the configuration of your lot can save you time and money (on grading and cutting of trees, for instance).

A great choice for a sloped lot would be our “Wolf Summit” house plan. This beautiful mountain house features an island basement, ideal for an uneven or hillside lot. Three bedrooms and three and a half baths make this the perfect family home or vacation getaway.

3. Most importantly, does the layout of the home make sense for your family? Does it provide the square footage you need? If you entertain, does it have the indoor and outdoor space you desire? Always check the floor plan and specs first. If these work for you, then view the finished product in the photography. Don’t let the finishes distract you!

The open and airy “Prairie Pine Court” is one of our most popular floor plans. This expansive single level, open concept home plan is ideal for daily living and entertaining.
